- Modify the table according to the action before you. Raise with premium hands AK AA – JJ to chase out limpers. You might want to call with the limpers with marginal hands like suited connectors; they play well in a multi way action.
- If the pot has been raised before, you need to decide whether to call re-raise or fold. As a general rule, you need a stronger hand to call or raise compared to what you would do if the action before you were only a flat call. You might want to call a raise from a weak player with any pair and play aggressive if you hit a set. If the raise is from a strong player you might want to re-raise with a premium hand and try to win the pot before the flop.
- Limping or raising – with premium hands AA-QQ and AK you would raise from any position. All other hands are drawing hands. However you need to mix your play occasionally, otherwise you will become too predictable.
- Keep most raises in the region of three times the big blind, if you had some limpers in front of you make your raises to about four – six times the big blind.
- Have respect for a strong tight player who raises under the gun. That means you would fold an AQ and AJs in this situation.
- Be inclined to call a very weak player and take the flop with them.
